Huygens and his Music Circle

Constantijn Huygens, poet, composer, and diplomat, was an influential figure in the Netherlands in the 17th

century. Through the 90 years of his long life he became friends with musicians from the courts he visited,

among whom were Lanier, Chambonnières, and Froberger. We present to you this program, which is centered

on songs from Huygens’ Pathodia Sacra et Profana (1647), accompanied by harpsichord and violin music by

composers from his musical circle.
